Vaginitis is a female issue
which means inflammation of the vagina. Whether
in relation to the vagina or not, something
that is inflamed can cause pain and discomfort,
and in some cases the pain can be very
severe indeed. If you have a vaginal concern
whether it be that of vaginal odor, vaginal
pimples or genital acne you should seek medical
attention. Vaginal infections are not
conditions that go away by themselves without
treatment. Illnesses and disorders if left
untreated
it can escalate into
something more serious that what it first
started as. It is not good no matter how
small your problem seems to be is to
ignore it. Ignorance kills.
One regular cause of vaginitis
is due to infections, however allergies to
particular bathroom products such as soap or
scented fragrances, or to the rubber in
specific condoms, can be accountable. As with
most conditions the way to determine what it
is, is by the symptoms it brings. And also with
most vaginal conditions these are not always
nice, in fact most are quite
unpleasant.
Symptoms of
vaginitis may include?
• A change in
vaginal discharge, (in smell and
color.)
• Vaginal itching
or burning.
• Uneasiness when
urinating
• Sexual
intercourse discomfort
Vaginitis can be
caused by many different sorts of organism,
although the symptoms tend to be alike. The
most recognized cause is an infection that most
women will know of, heard about, or even
suffered from, and that is thrush.
Thrush infection
is caused by a fungus (candida albicans) and is
noted for the rise of vaginitis. Symptoms of
thrush are itching in and around the genitals.
Unlike some vaginal infections, vaginitis does
not bring more vaginal discharge. If fungus is
found in the vagina then this has normally
happened because of the change in the vagina's
acid balance, which leads to a rise in fungus
growth.
Trichomonas
Trichomonas is
caused by a small organism called a flagellate.
With this condition change in vaginal discharge
is quite evident in its appearance and
consistency. Expect to see a greenish-yellow
discharge and maybe plenty of it. Itching,
burning sensation, or pain in the vagina also.
Trichomonas is usually successfully treated
with a course of antibiotics.
Aside from thrush
infection we also have another familiar
infection called Bacterial vaginosis (BV for
short.)
Gardnerella
vaginalis (bacterial vaginosis) is caused by
the growth of bacteria that causes the acidity
of the vagina to become more alkaline. Vaginal
discharge shows up as greyish and frothy with a
nasty fishy smell.
Diagnosis for BV
is carried out by analyzing a swab from the
discharge. Treatment for bacterial vaginosis is
a short course of antibiotics. If you have
reason to believe that you are affected by
vaginitis then you must pop along to your
doctor`s surgery to be tested so that he/she
can clarify that this is what you have. The
quicker you do this the quicker you can be
prescribed the appropriate medication to cure
your infection.
With vaginal
infections you have to absolutely sure of which
one you have because certain STDs, may need a
different approach in the way treatments are
conducted. Seek advice from your GP, Family
Planning Clinic, genitourinary medicine (GUM)
clinic
Play it safe and
stay safe by having your condition determined
or treated.
