Men and beauty - the male make up package
Have you noticed that you are competing with the opposite sex more and more for the use of the bathroom mirror? It could be that you are experiencing an increasing trend of men using cosmetics. Most men have been using shaving foams and deodorants and maybe the odd splash of Brut for years but now their shelves are more than likely to contain moisturizers, tanning creams, cleansers, and hair products and sometimes even make up.
Men and Beauty
This new trend of men taking care of their appearance has coined the term 'metro sexual'. Gone are the days of men being men, sweaty with dirty fingernails, and only homosexual men wearing make up, today's men are the target of a new genre of the cosmetic industry. Major name brands are launching grooming ranges for men who have a penchant for primping.
To help men feel a little less intimidated terms such as treatments, serums or correctors are being used to sell the same products we have been reliant on for years. One major manufacturer has unabashedly launched products for men such as eyeliners, lip gloss and bronzers.
Of course the men of the Theatre and TV have been using make up for years but the men on the street I have spoken to are all of the same opinion, this just won’t take off. So why then is this the largest growing market area in beauty sales? Someone must be buying this stuff, whether or not they will admit to it is a different thing all together.
I for one think it is a good thing, why shouldn't men be subjected to the increasing paranoia that goes with becoming aware of those flaws the cosmetic industry want us all to think we have.
Men and Beauty
As the mother of teenage boys I have noticed the difference of opinion in a dramatic way on beauty products for men. One of my teens is a 'Goth' and regularly wears eyeliner and nail polish, at the other end of the spectrum is another teen that cleanses and moisturizes to keep his skin clear but wouldn't be seen dead in make up.
The other deciding factor is the price of beauty products for men. The average woman spends a fortune on products every month but will men? Would they be prepared to put aside a budget for cosmetics? They must be because they are flying off the shelves.
Whichever opinion you have, it cannot be dismissed that men and make up is a growing trend that will keep the money rolling in for the never ending market of cosmetic entrepreneurs.
Why shouldnt men look beautiful too. |
